All CSU campuses maintain higher academic admissions standards for students who are not residents of California. Particular campuses may have higher standards for specific majors, depending on that campus’ particular area of academic expertise. All campuses use high school coursework, GPA, standardized test scores, and a high school diploma as overall admissions requirements.

CSU identifies GPA as the most significant factor associated with admissions. Students with a GPA above 3.0 may not have to submit SAT or ACT test scores, the CSU recommends these exams for all students, regardless of GPA.

California State uses an eligibility index to determine successful admissions applicants. This index uses GPA and either SAT or ACT test scores together in order to determine admission. For nonresident applicants the index is more difficult to meet than for resident students. Applicants should refer to the CSU website for a detailed matrix of eligibility indices based on GPA and test scores.

The eligibility index uses the applicant’s GPA multiplied by 800 and added to the SAT score or multiplied by 200 and added to ten times the ACT score to determine their admissions eligibility. For California residents the minimum eligibility index is 2900 with the SAT score or 694 with the ACT score. Nonresidents must have a 3502 using SAT or 842 using ACT.

Students who wish to apply to more than one campus must apply to each campus individually. The application fee is $55 for each application. California resident students are not charged tuition but pay a “State University Fee” ($2046 for the academic year of 2003-2004), and then pay individual campus fees which vary by campus.
